Adaptation of Selayar Islands Regional Students to Online Learning at Universitas Terbuka Makassar

Learning in Indonesia has undergone a major transformation, especially in the implementation of the online learning system which was widely implemented at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Open University is a university institution that implements Distance Learning that reaches to remote areas to the archipelago, including the Open University of Makassar which serves up to the Selayar archipelago. With the geographical and socioeconomic conditions in the archipelago, it is a challenge for students to adapt to the online learning system. The purpose of this study is to describe the forms of adaptation of students in the archipelago to online learning and identify obstacles in the adaptation process. The method used is qualitative based on field data with descriptive analysis, so that the results are obtained that there are 3 forms of adaptation, namely technical adaptation; students take advantage of the public Wi-Fi facilities prepared by the District Office or Village Office and for other groups of students to study when the network connection is stable, namely at night. cognitive adaptation; Students are more about learning independence, on their own initiative by managing their study time, making notes of lecture materials and building learning strategies. Social adaptation; Students can establish effective communication between students and tutors in WhatsApp groups in understanding the material. The main obstacles faced by students are limited and unstable internet connections, limited devices and lack of motivation.
