Abstract

The role of YouTube in supporting the learning of Indonesian language and literature in junior high schools in terms of the number of videos that support the material and suitability with the demands of a communicative and contextual curriculum. This problem needs to be mapped because it is to find out the sensitivity of practitioners and observers of Indonesian language and literature learning towards the role of YouTube in learning. The research method used is descriptive qualitative method. There are three major sections of material contained in the 2013 Indonesian language and literature curriculum namely, text genres, linguistics and literature. From these three sections, 30 videos were found that could be used as supporting materials: 12 text genres, 8 linguistics and 10 literary ones. As for material that is not yet available on Youtube, in the text genre there are at least 8 materials that are not yet available, at least 8 linguistic materials as well as in the field of literature there are at least 12 materials that are not yet available. Of the 30 videos analyzed in terms of curriculum demands that were communicative and contextual, 10 were found to be theoretical, 13 communicative, 4 contextual, and 6 sample videos. So, there are 4 communicative and contextual ones. In conclusion, the videos available on YouTube still have drawbacks, both in terms of quality and quantity; but at the same time it also shows that there are wide opportunities for practitioners and observers to upload the videos needed.
