Abstract

In daily life, we are never separated from dialogue activities, whether limited to chatting, discussing, maybe even in presentations and debates, where these activities are carried out through speaking. Speaking in general can be interpreted as conveying one's intentions (ideas, thoughts, thoughts and feelings) to others by using spoken language so that these intentions can be understood by others. The development of speaking is a stage where the child is able to convey the desired message in the form of sound sequences in the form of two or three words. Good language development, especially in speaking, makes students able to express their thoughts and feelings according to the context of the situation when he is speaking. Discussing Persuasive Speech Texts based on ethics, emotions and logic is one example of a learning activity provided by the teacher to develop students' skills in Indonesian. The purpose of doing this research is to describe how the development of speaking skills of class IX students, through discussion activities. The learning model used uses a scientific approach which aims to be able to find information through observing, asking, gathering information (trying), reasoning (associating), and communicating. The assessment sample was taken in class IX, with a population of 24 students. Data collection techniques used inquiry-based instruction The results showed that the scientific method can improve Indonesian language skills in class IX students with discussion activities.
