Abstract

At present there are various variations of language styles used in the community. The existence of variations in language style is triggered by the development of communication technology which is developing very rapidly. The use of Indonesian that is good and right at this time has begun to be displaced by slang and people feel accustomed to using slang. This situation is getting worse because the feeling of fear is considered outdated (not slang) if you don't use that language. The purpose of this study is to describe the use of slang among adolescents and the impact it causes. The research method used in this study is descriptive with a qualitative form. The techniques used are questionnaires and interviews. The steps of data collection that the researchers carried out were by recording the conversations of adolescents who use slang in their environment, as well as taking samples (adolescents) to make a table of the slang they often use. The results of this study indicate that the forms of the use of slang in communication among adolescents include (1) shortening of words, (2) use of acronyms, (3) use of new terms agreed upon by a particular group, and (4) acquisition of slang as an identity teenager self. Acquisition of slang in adolescents, among others, through friendship with their age, imitation of their idols, and making new vocabulary specifically used in teenage friendship groups.
