Abstract

Short story is a literary work of fiction that is short, dense, complete, and can be read in one sitting. Short stories have building elements in the form of intrinsic elements which include theme, setting, characterizations, point of view, plot, and messages. This research is motivated as a form of appreciating literature. This study uses qualitative analysis methods. The purpose of this study is to analyze the intrinsic elements contained in the short story "Merantau" by OJ Hara. Data analysis was carried out through four stages, namely reading, analyzing, taking notes, and describing the intrinsic elements of the short story. After being analyzed, the researchers found that the short story "Merantau" by OJ Hara contained intrinsic elements, namely in the form of themes, settings, characterizations, point of view, plot, and messages.
