Plant Taxonomy is one of the courses in the Biology Study Program. Learning resources are anything that can help students to achieve learning goals. Plants that are planted to protect people or objects beneath or around them from sunlight and rainwater are called shade plants (protective plants). This research aims to determine various shade plants as a learning resource for the Plant Taxonomy course for students in the Biology Study Program at Al-Azhar Islamic University. The research was carried out using the observation method of shade plants on the Al-Azhar Islamic University campus. Based on research, 15 families and 21 species of shade plants were obtained. The fifteen families are Anacardiaceae, Araucariaceae, Arecaceae, Casuarinaceae, Clusiaceae, Combretaceae, Fabaceae, Gnetaceae, Lamiaceae, Moraceae, Myrtaceae, Phyllanthaceae, Rubiaceae, Sapindaceae, and Sapotaceae. Students who take the Plant Taxonomy course can directly study the morphological differences of the various families and describe the morphological characters of each shade plant species on the Al-Azhar Islamic University campus. Learning the Plant Taxonomy course by utilizing the environment as a learning resource can provide students with direct learning experiences regarding the material being studied and increase students' interest and motivation to actively participate in the learning process and support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) number 4 concerning quality education and SDGs number 15 concerning terrestrial ecosystems.
