Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology has significantly transformed the mindset, behavior, and social interactions of young generations, particularly Generation Z and Generation Alpha. These digital natives have been familiar with smart devices, social media, and the internet since early childhood, giving them advantages in information access and interactive learning. However, they also face serious challenges such as gadget addiction, ethical degradation, individualism, and weakened social empathy. This study aims to explore the role of character education and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) in equipping the digital generation not only with technological competence but also with integrity, responsibility, and emotional balance. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, focus group discussions, and literature review to examine the practices of character education and SEL in schools and families. The findings reveal that integrating moral values and social-emotional skills into project-based learning, digital literacy, value reflection, and active parental guidance can strengthen self-awareness, emotional regulation, empathy, social skills, and responsible decision-making. Through synergy among schools, families, and communities, character education and SEL can serve as a crucial foundation for Generation Z and Alpha to grow as resilient, well-rounded individuals who can wisely utilize digital technology.
