Abstract

This study aims to analyze the transformation of learning in pesantren (Islamic boarding schools) through the integration of animated media in religious instruction. The research employs a qualitative method with a case study approach, wherein data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with ustadz/ustadzah (male/female religious teachers) and santri (students), and documentary studies. The findings indicate that the integration of animated media successfully transformed religious learning from a predominantly conventional, textual, and unidirectional method into a more interactive, visual, and contextual one. Animated media proved effective in enhancing the students' comprehension of abstract and complex religious concepts, visualizing narratives from the Qur'an and Hadith, and reinforcing memory retention and learning interest. This pedagogical transformation within the pesantren has yielded a positive impact on the development of learning technology. Nonetheless, challenges such as infrastructural limitations and the technological competency of the instructors necessitate serious attention from policymakers to optimize the use of technology in pesantren education. This study contributes to the discourse on integrating animated media as a potential strategy for revitalizing religious pedagogy in pesantren, making it more relevant to the learning styles of the digital generation while preserving the intrinsic values and foundational principles (khittah) of the pesantren itself.
